Rona Metters – Founder & Consultant School Business Manager

JEM Business Consulting was founded by Rona Metters in 2016 with a simple vision: to provide schools with calm, practical and expert support that helps them navigate even the most complex challenges with confidence.

​

An experienced and qualified School Business Manager, Rona brings together a unique blend of expertise gained from both the financial services sector and education. With a background in banking and insurance, compliance, governance, financial management and robust operational processes have always been at the heart of her professional approach.

​

Since moving into education in 2012, Rona has worked across special, primary and secondary schools, supporting both maintained schools and academies. She began her education career as School Business Manager for a multi-site SEMH special secondary school in Cambridgeshire, working alongside the Senior Leadership Team to successfully lead the school out of Special Measures. During the subsequent inspection, His Majesty's Inspectors specifically recognised the quality of the school's data management—reflecting the strong systems, governance and attention to detail that remain central to Rona's work today.

Following the school's conversion to academy status, Rona established JEM Business Consulting to provide strategic, operational and financial support to schools across Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties. Since then, she has partnered with schools of all sizes, helping leaders strengthen financial resilience, improve compliance, build capacity and create sustainable systems that allow them to focus on what matters most—pupils.

Rona has particular expertise in supporting schools through periods of challenge and change, including:

• Schools requiring improvement or in statutory intervention

• Deficit budget recovery and long-term financial planning

• Integrated Curriculum and Financial Planning (ICFP)

Committed to supporting the whole school community, Rona is also a qualified Mental Health First Aider, having completed accredited training through Mental Health First Aid England and Listening Lantern. She understands that successful schools are built not only on sound finances and strong compliance, but also on healthy, resilient teams.

Emma joined JEM Business Consulting after building a successful career in industry before making the transition into education following the arrival of her children. Her commercial background, combined with her growing expertise in school business operations, brings a practical, organised and people-focused approach to the team.

Based in our office, Emma is often the friendly voice or welcoming face behind JEM. Her positive outlook, approachable nature and exceptional organisational skills help keep both our team and the schools we support running smoothly.

Emma provides remote finance and HR administration support to schools, delivering reliable, accurate and timely assistance that enables school leaders to focus on their priorities. Whether managing day-to-day administrative tasks or responding to changing demands, she approaches every challenge with enthusiasm, professionalism and a genuine desire to help.

Emma's warmth and sense of humour bring energy to the office, while her calm, can-do attitude reflects the values at the heart of JEM Business Consulting. Maxine Jones has worked in the education sector since 2016, bringing extensive school office experience and a thorough understanding of the day-to-day operations that keep schools running effectively.

​

As a Consultant Finance & HR Administrator, Maxine provides dependable administrative support with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance and organisation. She understands the importance of robust systems and processes and, like every member of the JEM Business Consulting team, maintains up-to-date safeguarding training to ensure schools receive support that reflects the highest professional standards.

Alongside her administrative expertise, Maxine brings a creative perspective to the team. With a background in graphic design, she has a natural eye for detail and presentation, often approaching challenges with both practicality and imagination.

Away from work, creativity continues to play a big part in Maxine's life. Whether she's sewing bespoke garments, painting landscapes, designing jewellery or tackling a challenging crossword, she enjoys activities that require patience, precision and thoughtful problem-solving—qualities that are equally valuable in the work she delivers for our schools.

Her career has included roles as an Assistant School Business Manager and EHCP Administrator, providing her with a broad and practical understanding of school operations, financial administration, compliance and the systems that enable schools to support every pupil effectively.

With years of hands-on experience, Emma is recognised for her calm, thoughtful approach and her ability to navigate complex situations with confidence and professionalism. Whether supporting school leaders, managing operational priorities or helping to resolve day-to-day challenges, she combines sound judgement with a genuine desire to make life easier for those around her.

Annette English-Matern brings a wealth of experience to JEM Business Consulting, having worked in the education sector since 2008 following the completion of her MBA.

Her career began with more than a decade in the Estates Team at a university before transitioning into both secondary and primary education, giving her a broad understanding of the diverse challenges faced across the sector.

Annette has a proven ability to streamline systems and processes, helping organisations improve efficiency, strengthen operations, and achieve sustainable outcomes. Known for her calm, solution-focused approach, she is skilled at leading change, supporting teams through periods of transition, and implementing practical improvements that make a lasting difference. Her collaborative style and attention to detail enable schools to navigate change with confidence while maintaining a focus on what matters most.
